UFC 158 TUF Comes To Town

UFC 158

UFC 158 goes down this Saturday in Montreal, the main card will feature; a grudge match,

6 of the best WW on the planet and 2 all TUF fights.

Chris CamozziOn the Main Card at UFC 158 TUF fighters take up the first 2 fights of the evening. Chris Camozzi takes on Nick Ring, as both men aim to get closer to the top 10 at 185lbs. Camozzi is riding a 3 fight winning streak inside the UFC, a win here would put him in line to face a top 10 opponent.

Standing across the ring will be the Canadian Nick Ring who’s sole loss in his 14 fight career came against Tim Boetsch, before  that fight Ring was riding a 12 fight winning streak, he rebounded with a decision win over Court McGee and will be looking to start a up a new winning streak of his own.

Both men are well rounded fighters but Ring is a big MW and will most likely look to use his grappling to give Camozzi problems, Camozzi’s losses have all come against fighters who have been able to grind him down with wrestling and grappling, at 6ft 3″ he will want to use his long limbs to keep Ring at bay and pick him apart with strikes.

In the first fight on the main card we see the latest 2 runners up in TUF series, in the openingUFC 158 Colin Fletcherbout of UFC 158 Colin Fletcher takes on Mike  Ricci.

Colin “Freakshow” Fletcher is tall and lanky lightweight standing at 6ft 2″ and will posses a height and reach advantage over Ricci, but will want to get the fight to the mat where his spider like limbs will be able to tie Ricci in knots. Of Fletchers 8 wins 7 have come by submission, and all of them have been chokes. Ricci’s last fight against Colton Smith showed his weakness to grappling, while Freakshow is not anywhere near Smith in the level of wrestling, his jiu-jitsu is far superior, and Ricci could not get Smith off his back for sustained periods of time in their fight.

The man once dubbed “The Lightweight GSP” due to him training alongside the Welterweight Champion at the Tristar Gym in Canada will want to keep the fight standing, he showed in his TUF stint that he has KO power and good striking apart from his crushing KO loss to Pat Curran and an extremely close decision loss to Daron Cruickshank  he has won most of his fights by taking control on the feet and bombing his opponents with power shots.

The fight seems to boil down to Striker vs Grappler, although neither man is awful in their weaker respect, both hold a clear advantage over the other in their preferred area. Can Colin Fletcher get Mike Ricci to the mat, or can Ricc keep the fight standing and land power shots past Fletcher’s long reach. Fletcher trains out with some of the best UK talent at Spartans and at the Unity Gym in the North East of England. Ahead of UFC 158 Colin Fletcher was enjoying BAMMA 12 in Newcastle and MMANewcastle had a quick catch up, Colin was in great spirits and training had gone well, and he couldn’t wait to fight and put on a show for the fans!
